Parker Ford History

The Early Years

Every successful business has its roots in a humble beginning. Parker Ford's story is no exception. Here's a brief glimpse at the vision and hard work that laid the foundation for our present-day dealership.

The business began back in the 1920's, when Kentucky natives, Hafford and Birdie Parker, moved to Detroit to join Hafford's brothers who worked at Ford Motor Company's headquarters (or "Ford's" as it was casually dubbed back then).

The Parkers joined other residents from rural and southern Kentucky who moved north to Detroit, for the purpose of establishing careers. The Parker men grew in their expertise and knowledge of the vehicle industry, while contributing to the Detroit community.
After a few years of calling Detroit home, Hafford and Birdie decided to move back to Kentucky where their growing family could flourish and they could capitalize on the auto industry experience they had gleaned. To this end, Hafford opened up a Model A and T vehicle repair shop in 1928. The establishment was literally a garage, which inspired the family to refer to the business as "The Garage"-a tradition which they continue today, even though Parker Ford has since (thankfully) expanded beyond the confines of the original space.

Ever since the early days of the company, Ford has been an essential element of the family business. Since it's opening, Parker Ford has enjoyed more than 90 years of thriving success, thanks to a loyal customer base of dedicated clients.

We're proud to serve the residents of Murray and the surrounding area with new and used vehicles, as well as providing quality service to help our customers maintain and enjoy their vehicles for years to come.
